Mission Statement

1. Vision – For HMC to be a church where fulfilling God’s mission is at the forefront of all that we do. 

Objectives – 

a) To spread the ‘Good News’ to our local community by both word and action.

b) To spread the ‘Good News’ to people nationally.

c) To spread the ‘Good News’ internationally. 

d) To work for peace and Justice. 

e) To encourage and support people in mission. 

Actions:- 

  i.   To raise funds for   Mission in Kenya – Wateraid and the Outreach Centre in Zambia

ii.   To continue with the Book collection for Amnesty International.

iii.   To continue collecting food for the Methodist Centre.

iv.   To continue to arrange “ Open Church ” days (e.g. New Years Day)

 v.   To examine & publicise the results of the Church Life Profile & act upon its findings.

2. Vision – For HMC to be a centre of welcome, outreach and support for the whole local community.

Objectives –

a) To make the church and its building as welcoming as possible to everyone.

b) To make sure people in the local community are aware of the church, what it has to offer them, and what they could contribute.

c) To provide support to people in the community.

d) To make all groups within the Church family feel included and valued.

e) To try and forge stronger links with those on our community roll and those using the Church premises.

Actions:-

  i.   To start a conversation with the other churches in Hanham.

ii.   Raise the profile of the Church Welcome Pack and activities that take place at Church.

iii.   To create a photographic Who’s Who.

iv.   To set up regular Saturday Coffee Mornings.

v.   To arrange regular events that brings the Church Family together.

vi.   To communicate with all Church & Community groups using the building.

vii.   To organise a Summer and Christmas Fair.

3. Vision – For HMC to be a place where people are encouraged to grow spiritually and improve their relationships with God.

Objectives –

a) To provide attractive, challenging worship.

b) To enrich the prayer life of the church and individuals.

c) To increase opportunity for Bible study and discussion.

d) To provide appropriate teaching and spiritual support for all.

e) To provide opportunity for discussion/debate on issues related to faith, the church, and the community in which we live, respecting all individual views.

f) To stimulate peoples desire for God.

g) To encourage people to participate in worship.

h) To encourage people to explore their calling.

i) To encourage people to think about the mission of the church.

j) To provide for the spiritual needs of members unable to attend church.

Actions:-

  i.   Arrange Yearly Church Retreat Week end for October 2002.

ii.   To introduce a Prayer Cross in the Church Foyer for Church and Community Use by September 2002.

iii.   To Introduce Worship into Residential Homes for the Elderly by Summer 2002.

iv.   To increase the Open Air Services by the Introduction of Worship on Hanham Mount, which will be extended to the Community. September 2002.

v.   To discuss and plan for the introduction of an effective Church Projection system which can help towards more creative worship and weekly community activity.  May 2002.

vi.   To plan and develop objectives from ideas collated at the Annual Church Meeting 3/02

vii.   To investigate youth services other than on a Sunday morning.

4. Vision – For HMC to be a place that offers good pastoral support to both its members and the wider church family.

Objectives –

a) To provide good pastoral support to all members.

b) To find ways of offering pastoral support to other church attenders, the church community role and the wider community.

c) To provide opportunity for people to develop their relationships, and gain support, from each other.

d) To ensure that everyone receives an adequate level of personal support according to their need and is equally valued as a member of the church.

Actions:-

  i.   Seek suitable extra training for the Pastoral visitors.

ii.   Encouraging more of our regular attenders to become members.

iii.   To seek a co-ordinator to extend the Tape Ministry.

iv.   Investigate, support and encourage Pastoral support for the Young People in our Church.

 

 

5. Vision –  For HMC buildings and grounds to support the current activities and future vision of the church in the best way possible.

Objectives -

a) To continue with the high standard of work of repairs, maintenance and upgrading currently undertaken.

b) To review access for the disabled throughout the building in light of the current legislation.

c) To consider whether the present building is adequate for the way in which it is currently used.

d) To continue to monitor aspects of safety both inside and outside the building.

e) To consider how best to maintain the daily cleaning and security of the building considering the high level of usage.

f) To keep under constant review the capacity of different areas of the church building, in particular the worship building.

i) To investigate what is necessary to gain a fire certificate to put performances on in the hall.

j) To look at ways of adapting the current worship area to facilitate modern technology within worship.

Actions:-

  i.   Rolling programme of Window replacements.

ii.   Improve the lighting in Church rooms.

iii.   Decoration and refurbishment of Room 4 and the stage. Including new lighting, loop system and improvements to the sound reproduction.

iv.   Property and Planning Committee to jointly develop schemes for improved facilities for the disabled.

v.   Carry out a Risk Assessment on the premises, (including fire risks)

 

6. Vision – For HMC to be a church committed to providing the financial resources needed to deliver its vision.

Objectives –

a) To make the church financially stable from its own offerings.

b) To continually review the way our premises are used from a financial perspective.

c) To consider the financial requests/requirements of other committees as they are presented.

d) To consider the financial viability of long term ideas such as employing a caretaker.

 

Actions:-

  i.   Balance the books – so that offerings balance the assessment.

ii.   Continue the development of the Church Business plan.

iii.   Planning Committee to consider further the Viability of the Church Caretaker and other areas for expansion.

 

·         This document has been put together by Hanham Methodist Church planning committee after consultation with the church membership and individual committees.

·         This is a live working document, and as such will be reviewed and renewed annually by the Planning Committee in consultation with other committees.

·        Actions will be updated regularly and should be such that they are achievable in the lifetime of the current document.  These actions are not tied to any one committee.
