Thinking Day 2003

When the Girl Guides decided to have a special day each year to remember all the Girl Guides and all the Girl Scouts in the world, they chose February 22, which was the birthday of both Robert Baden-Powell and his wife Olave Baden-Powell and they called it THINKING DAY. In this Church we celebrate Thinking Day on the Parade Sunday closest to 22nd February – which was 16th February 2003.

For Thinking Day we try and think about Guides and Girl Scouts all over the world, we try and think about the things that we share and the things that we enjoy doing – it helps us realise that we are all the same – and hopefully it makes us think about living in peace. This year our Brownies and Guides, have been sending and receiving postcards all over the world.

On our Thinking Day, the Brownies and Guides met for breakfast (see photos below) and then joined the church for worship.

One of our neighbouring Guide leaders wrote us a song, which the Girls sang to the tune of "Give me joy in my heart"

 Postcard to God

What would we say to God on a postcard,
If we sat down to write one day?
Would it be for peace for the whole world,
Or for happiness in every way?

Chorus:
Dear God, dear God, may we always be kind and nice
Dear God, dear God, let everyone on Earth enjoy their life.

May everyone have food in their tummies,
And have shelter from the sun and rain.
May they all know the love of a family,
And have freedom to sing, dance and play.

Chorus:
Dear Brownies, dear Guides, I am writing this to say “hello”,
Dear Brownies, dear Rainbows, I am always here for you, you know

I wish all the same things as you do,
If only they could all be true.
Please put on your smiles and show others
All the wonderful things you do.

Chorus:
Dear Brownies, dear Guides, put your hands together, join with me.
Dear God, dear God, we’ll do our best to help your family.

Mary Patela
