Games

Oxford and Cambridge (aka Ladders)

We enjoy playing Oxford & Cambridge because it’s great fun and can be very noisy when everyone cheers their team.

How to play:

First you need to make two teams. Each team sits in a line, opposite a member of the other team with your legs out straight and the soles of your feet touching those of the member of the other team.

Each person is given a number. You are the same number as the person you are opposite.

The leader says a number if it’s your number you run up the room, jumping over the others legs. At the end you turn and run down the back of your team, turn at the bottom and run back up the legs of your team until you get to your place. The first person back gets a point for their team.

Care: Make sure you have at least one metre between you and the person next to you. You must keep you legs out straight otherwise you could trip someone else up. Keep your hands in front of you or they may get stood on.

Variations:

      1) We sometimes have sums to work out and the person whose number is the answer has to run.

      2) Instead of being numbers you can be different animals and when you run you have to make the noise of that animal (this is better for Brownies though)

Parachute Games

We have recently got a parachute and are learning new games to play with it.

Parachute GamesGuides roll around on parachute.

It is great fun.

Favourite games are Sharks and the Washing Machine.

Sharks: Everyone sits around the edge of the parachute, with their feet under the 'chute. One person is chosen to be the shark. They have to go under the 'chute and crawl around whilst everyone else is gently lift the parachute up and down. They have to pinch someone's feet, who has to give out a blood curdling scream and then change places with the shark. They then become the new shark.

Washing Machine: Two people sit in the centre of the parachute, back to back. Everyone else stands up and hold the edge of the parachute with their right hand. Slowly they all start to walk clockwise, and gradually the parachute will wind round the people in the middle. Stop walking when the parachute reaches their shoulders. On the count of three everyone holding the parachute pulls as hard as they can and the people in the middle twist around like clothes in a washing machine. Care: make sure the parachute does not go above the shoulders and the no-ones hair is caught in the parachute before you pull.
